- Description:
- Printed on assignment sheet: "Neil Haggerson who farms with his father and brother in Sumter County near Americus surveys his peanut crop (a week after the flood) which was damaged by the recent floods. Haggerson predicts that around 8 percent of his peanut harvest will be ruined by the high water. 'Anytime you loose an acre you loose dollars,' he said. 'Anymore, our profit margin is tight,' said Haggerson about farming. 'It takes all of your efforts to make ends meet.'" Caption: "Damage to vegetation: About 447,000 acres of crops have been affected to some degree by the flooding, experts say. Neil Haggerson (above) surveys the peanut crop on his Sumter County farm. Rodney Harrell (right) checks the damage to the cotton crop on his farm outside Albany. A week after the flood, water still flows through the peanut fields (below) of David Bishop's farm near Hawkinsville. July 17, 1994. Staff Photos by Rich Addicks."
