- Description:
- Newspaper caption attached to print verso identifies photographer (Bill Grimes): "Homes for the Elderly: Two boys play on the driveway of two modern, high-rise buildings at 335 North Ave. NE, which will be public housing for 283 elderly families in the Bedford-Pine area. The Atlanta Housing Authority held open house there Sunday. When the first 70-apartment low-rise portion of the project was opened last summer, Mayor Sam Massell called it a 'showplace for our city and an example to the rest of the country.' Ninety-eight more low-rise, single-family units are to be added later. Former residents of the area, once known as Buttermilk Bottom, aided the city and AHA in land clearance and family relocation for the low-rise community, called U-Rescue Villa in their honor." Caption date-stamped: Dec 11 1972 Journal.
