Text - Description:
- The Westside Documentation Project includes materials gathered by historians Dr. Martha Keber and Dr. Charles Elmore in preparation for a written history of three westside Savannah neighborhoods (Hudson Hill, West Savannah, and Woodville) for the City of Savannah, Department of Cultural Affairs, and the resulting final products of that research: Keber's Low Land and the High Road: Life and Community in Hudson Hill, West Savannah, and Woodville Neighborhoods, (City of Savannah, Department of Cultural Affairs, 2008); and "Life and Community in Hudson Hill, West Savannah and Woodville Neighborhoods" (website), available at http://savannahneighborhoods.org. The research focuses primarily on the period from 1900 to 2006 in these predominantly African American neighborhoods. Topics represented include employment, schools, housing, churches, leisure activities, and the civil rights movement.
