Civic Magazine covers a dedication ceremony for the completion of a redevelopment project on the 500 block of East Jones Street. The final part of the project to be completed was a sidewalk designed to accommodate disabled people. Speakers at the dedication ceremony include Assistant City Manager Henry Moore, City Manager Michael Brown, Mayor Susan Weiner, and Chair of Revolving Funds Committee Susie Myers. Segment two: Olympic countdown, 6:36-26:47.Civic Magazine covers the ceremony celebrating the 500-day mark until the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, at the Marriott hotel. Flags of the world are paraded through the celebration, there areexhibitions of athletics and Olympic memorabilia. Senior Banking Executive Brian Foster for NationsBank, an Olympic sponsor, introduces Olympic gold medalist Trent Dimas, the first American male ever to win a gold medal in gymnastics away from U.S. soil, having won gold at the Barcelona games in 1992. Foster honors other Olympians present including weightlifter Michael Cohen, and local sailors Eric Oetgen and John Porter. He also honors the local YMCA gymnastics team, who competed at the national YMCA championships in San Diego. After thanking several other people, Olympian Trent Dimas speaks to the crowd and talks about his Olympic experience and his goals for the 1996 Olympics.
