- Segment one: Press Conference for acceptance of HUD grant, 0:00-12:00. Civic Magazine covers a press conference announcing the awarding of a Housing and Urban Development HOPE VI grant of $16 million to the city of Savannah for development of the Garden Homes facility. Richard Collins, executive director of the Housing Authority of Savannah, makes the initial announcement and talks about what the money will be used for in development. Minnie Witherington, representing U.S. Senator Max Cleland's office, praises the grant and how it shows that government can have a positive impact on communities and give hope. Richard Collins thanks many of the organizations involved in making the project possible, and singles out Mayor Floyd Adams, Jr. for coming up with the idea. Mayor Adams gives a speech thanking everybody who worked on the project and his hopes for renovation of the Garden Hones facility. City manager Michael Brown speaks about how he hopes the project will benefit the surrounding community. Bobby Lockett, Housing Authority of Savannah chairman, gives a speech about the importance of quality housing and the many homes that the grant will provide. Segment two: Groundbreaking ceremony for Comfort Suites hotel, 12:00-13:20. Civic Magazine covers the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Comfort Suites hotel at the west end of Bay Street, overlooking the Thomas Bridge. City Alderman Pete Liakakis, City Manager Michael Brown, and hotel owner Jay Patel break ground on the site of the hotel.
