- Description:
- Gen. Oglethorpe Monument Showing First Baptist Church in Left Background, Savannah, Ga. Annotated on back: The James Edward Oglethorpe Monument, honoring Georgia's Founder, is located in Chippewa Square. The handsome bronze statue is the work of Daniel Chester French and the base is from a design by Henry Bacon, both artists being noted for the Lincoln Memorial in Washington, D. C. The First Baptist Church is modeled after the Greek Parthenon. Portions of the building were constructed in 1832, but the congregation was organized in 1795. This color postcard depicts the Monument surrounded by flowering bushes.
