Fair On The Square

"Wet and Wild"
September 5, 2000

The annual welcoming of the freshmen to
the campus by La Grange College and the city
of La Grange was rained on for the first time
ever. That did not stop the Fair on the Square
from taking place; it just became the Fair near
the Square instead! This event, sponsored by
SGA, was for freshmen and all other La Grange
College students to get to know what there was
on campus and in the community. Booths of all
types were set up, from fraternities and sorori-
ties to local churches. SGA provided a water gun
obstacle course which simply allowed students
to soak their friends even more than the rain al-
ready had. There was plenty to do and see. Stu-
dents signed up to join organizations while oth-
ers ate dinner. It might have been a wet Fair on
the Square, but that just made it a little more
intresting than usual. . , _. , ^ u

"Fall Addition"
October 5, 2000

Students packed in to Henry Lobby to watch the first

installment of Lip Sync. There were an array of acts, from
hysterical Delta Tau Delta Pledges to fun-loving Phi Mu New
Members. What was the point of all this dressing up and act-
ing crazy? Maybe it was to make some lasting memories, and
maybe it was for the money! The Student Government Asso-
ciation gave cash prizes, which went to the following groups:
3rd place went to Sexy Soul Sisters, 2nd went to the "Who
Let the Dogs Out?" Women's Basketball Team, and last but
not least the Kappa Delta New Members stole first place with
their rendition of "Good Bye Earl" by the Dixie Chicks. Earn-

Wi

hat to do on a Thursday night in La
Grange? One can always go to the movies or go
out to eat. These things get old after a while. The
La Grange College Student Government Asso-
ciation knew this. To give students something new
to do on one of those Thursday nights they im-
ported some talent. On November 2 they brought
the comical talents of Spanky. Students flocked
to the dining hall, and found themselves laughing
from the moment Spanky took the stage to the mo-
ment he left the building. He even incorporated stu-
dents into his act, having Lindsay Walburg join him
on stage for a portion of the evening. Spanky and his

"Memories and Milestones"
October 20&2 1 , 2000

-Homecoming 2000 was like no other.
From its very beginning. The giant
inflatables that SGA sponsored on Friday
was a noticeable change. Students enjoyed
taking a break between classes or waited till
after dinner to take full advantage of the
oversized toys. From big trikes to the huge
obstacle course students were able to work
up a sweat by having fun. Saturday was even
better for all those who woke up early enough
to see the Homecoming Parade. There
seemed to be more floats than ever; as well
as beautiful Homecoming Court representa-
tives. There was a Noah's Arch float and a
Flintstones float to watch, and don't forget
about the candy that was tossed into the
parade's onlookers! After that it was time
for a rest. Most headed to the dining hall for
lunch with family and friends. Then it was
off to the game. The Men's Panther Soccer
team ran all over their foes. The crowd
watched and waited in anticipation for the
announcment of Homecoming Queen, float,
and banner competition winners at halftime.

T,

here were three different con-
tests up for grabs during Homecom-
ing. First was the Banner Contest.
Organizations painted banners on
sheets and hung them from Henry
Dorm on Wednesday for all to see.
They ranged from the silly and inter-
esting to the beautiful, but they all re-
lated to Memories and Milestones. The
winner was The Quadrangle with a ban-
ner of a yearbook opening up and every-
thing jumping right out off its pages. The
best float was the next contest. Saturday
morning the judges looked at all the differ-
ent floats, each tried to show their interpre-
tation of memories and milestones. Kappa
Delta took first place with the depiction of
the different achievements that one makes as
he or she goes through life. Last but not least,
the one contest everyone had watied for at half-
time was the announcement of the Homecom
ing Queen. With dozens of girls rep-
resenting their respected organiza-
tions choosing a winner seemed like
an impossible task. Winning Miss
Congeniality and 2nd runner up was
Diana Celorio representing The Bap-
tist Student Union. First runner up
was Erin Sexstone, who represented
Wesley Student Fellowship. Tessa
Matthews, representing Pi Kappa

Craps Table for those die-j
hard casino fans where mil-
lions could be won and lost
in the blink of an eye.
The event also featured
mocktails, food, and music.

Greece England and Much More !

Interim januar y' 2001

-^Lmong the new items at La Grange College this past year was the arrival
of semesters and the Jan-term. While adjusting to the semester system had it's quarks,
it provided students with the opportunity to try new classes and even study in Greece
and England.

There were classes like never seen before on this campus. With the shorted
amount of time during the Jan term, it allowed for smaller hands on classes. From
jewelry making ,folk art, theater, history & many more were new and inventive classes
for students to take.

Some students were able to go to Greece and study art and history. They saw
ruins from ancient Greece and art from around the world. Others were able to venture
to rainy and wet England. Where they saw Stonehenge, Castles, A bible written in the
1600's and much more. These two trips sent students from Georgia around the world
to visit new cultures.

For some lucky students Jan-term was even used as a break from school. A
student is required to take three out of the four Jan-terms to graduate in a four year
cycle. Some students, especially seniors used this time to relax and take a break
before finishing up with school. All in all the new system looks like it will work out
great in the coming years.

Seeing as the LaGrange College
switched to semester system that
leaves no winter quarter so SGA
just moved it to the spring semes-

but with a change. This year the
Quadrangle Dance was moved
from the auditorium on the
Callaway Campus to the Dining
Hall on the main campus. This
brought out a record number of
people to the dance this past year.
Everyone seemed to be there enjoy-
ing the food and drinks. With the
Dining hall walls covered in black
and mugs as party favors the Stu-

dent Government Association put
on a great dance. The music, pro-
vided by a dj this year, was inter-
esting to some people who saw
what the new dance the cha cha
slide was all about. It is like a line
dance with a R&B flavor added to
it. It caught most peoples attention.
Everyone waited for the crowning
of this years Quadrangle King and
Queen. Before the crowning the
Quadrangle staff for the first year
ever presented class superlatives
for the first time. A tradition many
liked to see come about and the
staff hopes to continue trough the
years.

Aug of the Hill is an excting part of campus life. For years
now the sisters of Alpha Omicron Pi have put on this event to
raise money for the Arthritist Foundation. It generates money
by having organizations sponsor guys, for a small fee that goes
to the charity, to dress in Drag and have a contest. In addtion to
the money collected to sponsor someone everyone pays a dol-
lar to watch the fun activites go on. This year there were four
contestants. There were siames twins, and even wonder woman
showed up for the event. The contest consisted of a evening
gown, talent and questions. The crowd was wowed by a physi-
cal workout that was put on by Matt Parker who took home this
years crown as Kings of the Hill and a fun night at Hooters.

Mud Wrestling

or the first time, Delta Tau Delta Fraternity put on a mud wres-
i tling event to raise money for charity. The event took place during
Greek Week 2001 on the old soccer field. There were two pools full
of mud and one pull full of water. Two girls at a time ran to the first
pool full of water, then they ran to the first mud pool. In each mud
pool were two pieces of cloth. Once you found the cloth then they
ran to then next mud pool to find another piece of cloth. The winner
was the first one across the line with both pieces of cloth. Needless,
to say things didn't go as planned. The girls were not able to find the
cloth in all the mud. So instead the first two just started to wrestle.
Then when the next two went they did the same. So that is how they
went through the rounds. With an AOPi that eventually took the crown
of champion of the mud, Missy Cavallin. She over powered bigger
and taller girls. No one was able to take her down. Though this was
an all girl event some guys got in the act too. J. P. Moser raced against
one of the girls and Nicholas Bellayuto and Christiana Miller took
each other on for some extra fun after the contest was over. It was an
event to remember and a tradition that hopes to be continued through

Dante's coffee shop was one of the great new
changes on campus this year. Open till 12:00pm dur-
ing the week it gave a place for students to catch a
pick me up while studying for class. It seemed most
nights there was a group at Dante's hanging around
and having fun. There had been nothing like it before
on campus that actually gave students on a nightly
bases a place to meet, eat and drink. Students seemed
to use it as a study break to see who was out and about
or they just came up there to use it to study. The table
and chairs inside and out were used to sit and keep
the conversations going. One could find a study group
right next too a group of friends meeting to make plans
for the night. Anyone could of been found on any given
night up at Dante's. Students were not the

only ones that used the coffee shop either. Faculty
and staff could be found there as well between
classes or during a special event like the public read-
ing of "Paradise Lost." Many events took place
down by Dante's in the new commons area from
Christmas Down Under to the showing of MTV's
The Anatomy of a Hatecrime: the Matthew Shep-
herd Story. Every Tuesday night there was Tues-
day Tunes. Every month it featured a different
LaGrange College student or group to performe live
music. There was even comedy performances too
on some occasions. Dante's had become the nerve
center for LaGrange College students with the hous-
ing of new offices for the Student Director of
Activities, Hilltop News, Quadrangle yearbook,
Student Government Association and the Post Of-
fice all right in the new commons area. Everyone
was always going in and out of Dante's and the
commons area this past year. If it was to look at the
art work supplied by the Art Student League in the
glass cabinets or reading the free papers while tak-
ing a sip of coffee and munching on some cheese-
cake, Dante's was the place to be this past year.

SGA decided to bring some
more inflatbales to play on.
There was a pitching game
were people lined us to see
how fast they could throw the
ball. The basketball game
matched two players up to see
who was best at hoops. An-
other form of jousting was

brought to us along with a
big glove boxing ring. The
Lukken Lua was sponsored by
Lukken Chevrolet and a col-
lege group of students. For a
class assignment they paried
up with Lukken Chevrolet.
They had students take sur-
veys at the end, the Lua was
held for everyone invloved in
the project. There was a Grand

Prize of a trip. There were also
stores and organizations with
booths and of course there
were cars to look at and ad-

through out the event. They
also had out the giant obstacle
course. These two events were
a big hit with the students.

May Day

ay day is a traditional event
that has been taking place at LaGrange
College for as long as anyone can re-
member. This years activities were like
most in the past few
years, but had their
own originality to
them.

As usual campus
organizations par-
ticipated in the Step
Sing to start the
events. All six Greek organizations par-
ticipated this year in step sing. Es-
pecially, among the sororities the step
sing trophy is something they fight hard
for. Alpha Omicron Pi gave us a great
medley of baseball songs and Phi Mu
gave their rendition of that little, red
headed Orphan Annie. Kappa Delta
came through, in the end with their
wonderful, winning take on the Beatles.

May day brings parents and alumni
from near and far to watch the festivi-
ties. The Quadrangle was packed with
people watching step sing. Dean Ted
Sharre was presented a gift for all his
work with LaGrange College and it's
students. Dean Ted Sharre leaves us to
go on to better and brighter things with
his family in Indiana. The Kappa Del-
tas gave him a ticket to ride during their
performance. Then the new Executive
Council for the Student Government
Association was sworn in, one bye one,
to their new offices.

Last but not least, The May day
Court was presented to everyone. There
were two representatives for each class
and then four for the senior class. Then
there was the announcement of Nicole
Darr and Matt Parker as May day Queen
and King 2001.

right of passage, futures
were about to begin, we were about
to graduate.

Of all that has been said and all
that will be said of the graduations
to come, the words of Justice Leah
Ward Sears were not only inspir-
ing, but words that spoke to the stu-
dents and gave them advice, not on
how to succeed but how to live
safely. At the outset she stated " If

She talked of aspiring to reach
goals, but never forgetting to take
time out " from time to tome, stop
and smell the roses."

With the hot Georgia sun beat-
ing down and the rain clouds mov-
ing in, the class of 2001 received
their diplomas and walked away
with smiles and tears. We wish all
the graduates the best in their fu-
ture endeavors, but don't forget to

Greek Week 2001

Another Greek Week fell upon the
school again this year from March 26
through the 30. It was full of sites and
sounds that will be remembered for
years to come.

There was a
heated battle to wind
Greek Week as al-
ways. Seeing as each
year a sorority rotates
and moves to the next
fraternity ever year
some one is paired up
with someone else.
This year Alpha Omicron Pi was with
Kappa Sigma, Kappa Delta was with Pi
Kappa Phi and Phi Mu was with Delta
Tau Delta.

The week started off with a band.
You had softball, volleyball, banner
competition, side walk drawing, picture
scavenger hunt, Greek Lip-Synch, and
I

the Academic Bowl all before you even
got to The Greek Games as they call it.

There were some changes as there
always are ever year. This year the aca-
demic bowl was made to be like Who
Wants To Be A Millionaire. There were
no Chariots this year a sad thing to
some. You also didn't just have the
usual philanthropy of Alpha Omicron
Pi's King Of the Hill, but you also had
Mud Wrestling but on by the Delta Tau
Delta.

By the time the Greek games came
every one was tired. Pie eating, Basket
ball Toss, Clothes Relay, Orange Neck,
Obstacle Course, Three Legged Race,
Balloon Toss and of Course Tug of War
As always it came down to the Tug of
War. Kappa Sigma and Alpha Omicron
Pi upset the Delta Tau Delta and Phi
Mu giving the Championship to Phi
Kappa Phi and Kappa Delta. Mr. Greek
was Matt Parker and Miss Greek Nicole
Darr which were crowned at King of
the Hill.

Above: Kappa Delta's Jenny Nihiser was

Jeremy Norman during the Orange Neck
relay and you think the guys would know
how to do this one.

Right: Pi Kappa Phi's Patrick Riley was

Far Right: Phi Mu's Alisha Golden got her
groove on with the help of some Delta Tau
Deltas during Greek Lip-Synch.

Far Left: Kellee Fell closed her eyes and
prayed that the water balloon wouldn't bust
on her. Her wish was granted this time.

Left: Scottie Stilwell did the crab walk dur-
ing the obstacle course. He shook that wa-
ter off as he hurried across the sand.

ielow: Nicole Darr tried the "let me stand on
ny head to get the apple routine." It was inven-
ive and she did end up helping her team cross
he finish line first.

Left: What great Greek Spirit! Three sorori-
ties sitting together to warm up. Laura
Melson, Jenny Fletcher, and Katie Porter, a
Phi Mu, AOPi, and a Kappa Delta all nice
and warm on this cold day.

Below: Alica Bailey, Chris Liston, Melissa Heath and Nick Ander-
son were ready to play tug of war. They beat the Dealt' s and Phi
Mu's which automatically gave the Championship to Pi Kappa Phi
and Kappa Delta.

The Hill
Is Conqured!

S eniors, we have arrived. For some of us the journey has
taken us a bit longer, but we endured. Can you remember that
first overnight stay? Did you have that guide that showed you the
REAL college life, or the guide who pulled out the quija board
and turned off the lights? Then there are the guides that showed
you the beauty we have come to love called Waffle House. What
about that first roommate? Was she a bookworm or the prom
queen? Did he get all the girls or did he become the D.D. king?

Through the pain of sophomore Lit classes and those
late nights out, we have all grown. Do you feel old
yet? If you do not, think about this: years freshman do
not remember Atari or BIG HAIR for the most part,
they do not remember the parking lot behind Henry
not being that big, when there was a Laundry room
where the swing and the fountain are now instead of
washer and dryers in each dorm. We have changed,
we are now ready to become assets to society, or rather
we are supposed to know what we want now.

Just like our school, we will always be under
construction. However, no matter where we go our
years at La Grange College will stay with us. The good,
the bad, the girls, the boys, the food, the teachers , the
visiting hours, the houses, and more have all influ-
enced and helped us today and will in our days to come.

" Past Season Was
One Of Intrigue

T

his Past season
was one of intrigue. We
added 9 new players to the
team and 8 of them where
freshmen. Out of the * new
Freshmen 6 were starters
on the team. Although the
record doesn't show the ef-

fort, the team grew as the
season progressed and re-
ally started to look good.
Because we where so young,
you never knew exactly
what you where going to get
from game to game. We
have a lot to look forward
to with all the freshmen re-
turning and the addition of
new players next year. The
future looks bright and I am
excited about the possibili-
ties of his team in the up
coming year.

CR

ross Country may have not
heard of it before on this campus. This
year there was something new in sports
to go with all the changes at LaGrange
College a Cross Country Men and
Women teams. Waking up a 6 for a
swim work out or running 10 or 12
miles straight in the heat of Georgia
for practice was something most do not
want to do or enjoy at all. Thanks to
coach Bryan Burgess it seemed like
great fun traveling to meets and stag-
ing two meets here at LaGrange Col-
lege. We held the LaGrange College
Festival and The Great South Athlet-
ics first Conference Championship
meet. At regionals the team saw com-
petitors that they had to race against
that were in the last Olympics in
Sydney, yet they still fared well. The
year was fast and fun even though in-
juries and sickness were there through-
out the season it was a very successful
one. It looks like the
new kid on the
block in the athletic
department is fitting
in just fine.

.t is over with. Yes I mean the year book but,

college for me to is done. Went by so fast yet so slow

and it seemed my senior year was the hardest one yet.

That means the so called real world will be even harder

than that.

This Quadrangle is like another in the past or that

will be in the future. It represents a year time span of

college life at LaGrange. How are you suppose to sum

up all the experiences, people, places and Blueprints in

a book. We started out with over 6,000 photographs to

use and 192 pages to put them on. You can just imagine how it went from there. We gave it or best shot and

I think it is the beat yearbook this college has seen in awhile. I am sure there are mistakes no one is perfect
after all. mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ^ mmmm ^^^^

I would like to thank my staff. Especially Shali Ordonez, Diana Celorio, Gayle Gotez, and Julie Bell
for all their hard work and help. I would like to thank the Public Relations Department for use of some photos
and Al Yates for the portraits. To Dana Becker thanks for putting up with me. I know it has not been easy forj
you at all. To my Kappa Sigma Brothers it has been a great for year and I couldn't of done it with out yo

of the same classes together we made it though most thought we wouldn't. We just need to learn to say n
once in awhile. To Lyndsey Knight and Casey Barbera, I love you
both like sisters. I will never forget all we shared and keep in touch the
trio needs to last. To Shali Ordonez, if not for you at my side with this
book, it would of never happened. To everyone at LaGrange College
thank you for a wonderful four years. I wouldn't have changed it for

Dedication

As the 2000- 2001 school year came to a

close farewells fill the air. This year will we not
only say adieu to seniors, but also, to our Dean
of Students Dr. Ted Scharre. The LaGrange Col-
lege Quadrangle staff would like to dedicate this
years Blueprints to Dean Ted Scharre. Thank you
for every thing you have done for us

After 12 years at LaGrange College,
Dean Ted will be moving in a new direction,
Next year he will be at Indiana University
Southwest as there Director of Campus Life.
Though he will be greatly missed , we wish
him, Connie, and Elizabeth God's blessings
as they bring their gifts to Indiana. I am sure
his Blueprint there will be all the better for
what LaGrange College added to it. I know
we are all the better for Dean Ted being apart
of our Blueprints.
