Dedication

We would like to dedicate the

1999-2000 Quadrangle
Yearbook to Charles Hudson,

President of the Board of
Trustees and Natalie Shelton
who is leaving LaGrange Col-
lege to be with her husband
and child in Europe.

Thank you for all your
hard work and dedication to
LaGrange College.
God be with you.

e

Founded in 1831,
LaGrange College was
one of the first higher
educational institutions
in the state of Georgia. It
has outlasted several
wars and depressions,
but has prospered
nontheless. The follow-
ing section is a brief
pictorial history of the
college and is dedicated
to all the faculty, staff,
and students that have
made it what it is today.

Men's Basketball

, he I ^99-2000 season marked an end and foreshadowed a new
beginning tor the LaGrange College Panthers. This was the last
season that the Panthers would compete in the Georgia Alabama
( a rolina Conference (GACC) of the N AI A. This is arguably one of the
best conferences in the nation in men's basketball. The GACC sent
three teams to the NAIA Division I National Tournament. The only
conference to do so. The Panthers have competed valiantly in the
GACC but it is time to move on. Next Season will mark a new
beginning in NCAA Division III. The Panthers are forming a new
conference in Division III, which will be called the Great South
Athletic Conference. Although the conference is still forming there
will be a conference champion named at the end of the season
tournament. The entire staff and team are excited about the move to
NCAA Division III and competing against schools who share the
same mission and vision as LaGrange College. The Panther's two
returning bright spots from last season are Antwaun Hawkins, who
was voted to the All-Freshman Conference Team this year, and Colt
McDowell, who was picked by his teammates as the teams most
dedicated player. These two individuals will play a huge roll in the
success of LaGrange College in the future because of their extreme
amount of hard work and dedication. Head Coach Joe Cambron and
his assistants, Warren I layens and [ason Williams; look forward to
seeing Mariotti Gymnasium packed full of Panther faithful.

"Greetings to the class of 2000... "

The graduating class of 2000 had a lot to be excited about on June 3.
Granted, it was the first time in years that many had even seen 8:30
on a Saturday morning but complaints about the early hour and the
heat of the morning sun were quickly drowned out by the sound of
bag-pipes in the distance. Over one hundred LaGrange College
students were greeted by President Stuart Gulley and Roy E. Barnes,
Govenor of Georgia, not long before they were handed their diplomas and
shifted their tassels from the right to the left. Then, as the bag-pipes
played once again, the class of 2000 said farewell to any more early
mornings at LaGrange and said hello to the rest of their lives.

133

One of the major challenges of
LaGrange College today is to show its j
students that to prosper in life they must j
give back to the community Because of j
this philosophy the administration has j
created a strong Servant Leadership
program that teaches students how to

care and give.

original and adopted. Laurel is the best little sister that anyone could ever have. Sallie, I am so proud to
call von a <=istpr and more importantly a friend. Missy, I could never have completed this without you.
You are my constant in a hectic world. Stephanie, I don't know how to thank you for making my senior
year such a wonderful one. Leigh, I wish their was a way that I could explain how important you are to
me. You are so very special and I could never thank you enough. Alicia, though the thick and thin, you
are the one person that I could never stay mad at long. It must be your smile. Mandy Lupo, you have
become my best friend. My only regret is that I didn't meet you earlier in my life. I also want to thank
several members of the faculty that have been so generous to me throughout the year. You have made my
time at LaGrange College a wonderful experience. These people are Dean Ted, Mrs. Kirby McCartney,
Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Turner, Marcia Gorman, Debbie Bonaminio, and most importantly Marcia Brown.

That should do it for my personal thanks. I would also like to mention that this book would never have
made it if it weren't for my staff, Dana, Natalie Shelton, Bob Thomas, Martha Pirkle. They have all do-
nated time and effort to this yearbooks production. Also, thanks to all the staff and faculty that donated
pictures and facts.

At this point I would like to make my apologies. I feel sure that I have messed up somewhere despite my
effort. Nobodys perfect. I just wanted to say that if I forgot someone or misspelled something I want

everyone to know that I am sorry.

All in all, I enjoyed working on this book. It recalls memories that had already begun to fade. Perhaps
through my time as Editor, I have created a way for all of us to remember our time at LaGrange College a
little better.

Editor's Page- Katie Holbach

Due to unchangeable circumstances, Katie was not able to write a personal letter. She would like everyone to
know that she appreciated all their help and time. Good luck next year!

Kathrine Holbach

Colophon

Volume 83 of the 1999-2000 LaGrange College Quadrangle was printed by Jostens in Clarksville,
Tennessee. Jostens' Company Representatives were David, Paulette, and Payton Zeigler.

The cover was designed by Stacy Gorman and Katherine Holbach with influence from a
LaGrange College Graduation invitation from 1899. The endsheets are
light beige.

The paper is 80-pound Mead glossy stock. The 1999-2000 Quadrangle measures 9"xl2" (size 9),
with a 160 point binder's board, smythe sewn. All copy used is Helvetica and Palatino. All copy,
layout, and graphic elements were produced on a Macintosh 6500/250 PowerPC using Pagemaker.

Student portraits were done by Al Yates in LaGrange, Georgia. All other photography was pro-
vided by Debrah G. Bonaminio, Ted Scharre, Natalie Shelton, Valerie Caswell, Stacy Gorman,
Kathrine Holbach, Natalie Shelton, Bob Thomas, Nicholas Bellayuto, and Julie Bell. Special thanks
for the Theatre Arts Department for donating pictures of this years theatrical productions to the
Quadrangle.

This volume contains 192 pages, including 32 pages printed in four color. The 1999-2000 Quad-
rangle had a press run of 600 copies. Additional copies may be purchased from the Office of Student
Development, LaGrange College, LaGrange, Georgia, 30240
