We are happy that you have selected LaGrange
College as the college of your choice. We are glad
you are here and hope that you will find a con-
genial atmosphere and a stimulating fellowship
with your comrades on the campus. College days
are happy days. As we welcome you to LaGrange
our wish is that your spirit of friendliness may
win for you the respect and friendship of your
fellows and make your college career a joyous

FOREWORD

The Student Government Association, based on
powers and laws granted by the President and
Faculty, has control of all matters pertaining to
the conduct and social life of the students. Each
student should learn to appreciate that the least
disregard of the rules on her part means extra
care upon her fellow students, who, though con-
scientiously assuming office under the Association,
have yet come to college to enjoy and make use
of the advantages that LaGrange College offers.
The life and work of the college is based on the
Honor System, and this system applies not only
to the rules and regulations concerning conduct,
but to scholastic work as well.

To learn to live honorably and unselfishly in
a community and to share in the responsibility of
the government is a part of the broader education
for which we come to college. We ask of each
student her hearty cooperation. We hope our
Student Government Association will succeed in
helping its students be intelligent citizens and
thinking individuals.

BY-LAWS

i.

1. Each resident hall shall be divided into sections each,
which shall have a proctor appointed by the house President.

2. Each proctor shall serve for a term of one month.

3. Proctors shall report all disorders.

II.

Any member of the Association whose conduct and atti-
tude are at variance with the principles of Student Govern-
ment, may after investigation by the Student Council, be
expelled or suspended from the Association.

Blanket Activity Fee

All students (except day students who will pay only
twelve dollars) will be required to pay a fee of fifteen
dollars for the maintenance of student activities. Half of
this fee must be paid to the Student Government Associa-
tion. The remainder is to be paid at the beginning of the
second semester. The fee includes the dues of the following
organizations:

REGULATIONS

DORMITORY REGULATIONS

Quiet:

1. From 8:30 A. M. to 1:00 and 2:10 to 5:10 and 7:15 to
10:00 P. M., except on Saturday afternoons and nights,
Sundays, and Holidays.

2. Absolute quiet from 10:30 P. M. to 7:00 A. M.

3. Radios must not be heard outside the room during quiet
hours or after lights. If this is not observed, a major
call down will be given. Three of such will deprive per-
son of light privilege for a month.

4. Girls answering phones are requested not to call in
the halls.

5. A minor call down will be given for loud calling or
running at any time during day or night.

6. Phones must not be used during study hall and after
room bell except for urgent calls.

7. Following a concert or a program, study hall will be
strictly observed even if only thirty minutes remain.

8. No one is to visit after room bell at 10:30.
Students must remain in their respective buildings after
this bell.

Visiting In Dormitories:

Students may spend only Saturday nights out of their
rooms.

Inspection:

Students are held responsible for the neatness of their
rooms which must be ready for inspection by 9:30 A. M.
except Sundays, Mondays and college holidays.

Meals:

1. All students are required to attend the evening meal
unless they sign meal absence slips in the office of the
Dean of Women before 5:30 P. M.

2. Reasonable quiet is expected in the dining room during
meals.

Penalty:

1. Hostesses at each table shall report any such absence to
the office of the Dean of Women. Minor call down.

2. Chairman of any group planning to be away for lunch
or dinner will sign for the entire group before 11 A. M.

Telephones:

1. No telephone conversation after room bell.

2. Students are requested to be considerate of others when
talking on phone. Don't talk too long. Only urgent
calls may be received during study halls.

3. Telephone on main floor of Smith building is reserved
for faculty use and college business. Students are re-
quested to use telephone on dormitory floors.

Study Hall:

Study Hall will be kept by a study hall monitor from
7:15 to 10:00 P. M.

1. No student may leave the floor without permission from
the monitor.

2. Freshmen may not study in another room without per-
mission from the monitor.

3. Penalty for not observing these rules will be a minor
call down.

4. Students must not sit anywhere on campus after 7:30.

SOCIAL REGULATIONS

1. Each student shall sign in office of Dean of Women by
7 o'clock of the night she intends to receive a caller.

2. A student may have dates with any LaGrange boy who
is on calling list.

3. See Dean of Women as to requirements for placing
friends on calling list.

1. All students may have dates on Saturday nights.

2. See Class Privileges for number of dates. A student
may see an out-of-town caller for one hour without
signing a date slip.

3. Students may have dates on campus on Saturday and
Sunday afternoons. Students must sign in immediately
following the church hour on Sunday night.

Penalty For violation is a minor call down.

4. No student may have dates while under restrictions.

5. All students are allowed one tennis date a week with
young men who are on the calling list. Sign with Presi-
dent of Athletic Association.

6. Callers are to be received only at times specified in
date privilege list.

7. All date cards must first be signed in the Dean of
Women's office and then presented,, by self, to the

No student may smoke in dormitory, college buildings,

or any place on campus or any public place while under

jurisdiction of the college.
Riding:

1. Students may ride with dates to and from show and to
and from dinner. This does not include riding around
town or out of the city limits. See class privileges.

2. Students may not keep automobiles at college.

3. Students may ride unchaperoned to and from destina-
tion signed for.

Dates:

Smoking:

4. With permission of the hostess, a student may ride
within the city limits when having dinner at a friend's
home.

5. Dates may go only to drug stores and sandwich shops
in the business section of LaGrange after the show.

Visitors:

1. Students must sign in Dean of Women's office for
week end guests.

2. Students must pay rate of 35 cents per meal for visi-
tors except members of the immediate family and
alumnae. Breakfast charge 25 cents.

3. Town students may spend the night at the college for
some special function after arrangement has been made
with the Dean of Women.

4. Students are responsible for the conduct of their guests.

5. Failure to sign for guests will cause a student to forfeit
the privilege of having visitors.

Sorority:

1. There are to be no sorority parties during the week un-
less special permission is granted by the Dean of Women
for exceptional cases.

2. Sorority meetings are not to be held after 10:30.

Pianos and Victrolas:

Pianos and victrolas are to be used only between supper
and study hall during the week. They are not to be
used Sunday morning.

Dress:

1. Students are not to appear on campus or in lobbies in
shorts, bathing suits, or halters. Sun baths must be
taken directly behind Residence Hall. Neither halters
nor bathing suits will be allowed on tennis courts.

2. Neat appearance is urged at breakfast.

3. Formal dress is expected at concerts and recitals.
Every student is required to attend all concerts, recitals,
lectures, or any public performance presented by the
college.

Penalty for violation Major call down.

GENERAL REGULATIONS

Chaperonage:

While visiting in town, students are under chaperonage
of hostess.

Time Limit:

1. Time limit specifies the hour at which students are
required to be on campus, unless accompanied by a
chaperon, faculty, or family.

2. Time limit varies with length of day and is set by the
Student Government.

3. When leaving the campus for the evening, students
must return by 10:30. Callers must leave by 10:30.

Registration (in Dean's office) Special:

Students must sign out when going to dinner, any
special function in town, when going out of town, spend-
ing the night during the week end, spending the day in
a home, and dates.

General:

Sign out when leaving the campus for riding or walking.
Sign in on all occasions signed out for.

Permissions:

For leaving town, having dates with out-of-town boys.
Permissions from parents or guardian please send to
Dean of Women.

Permissions must be mailed direct to Dean of Women.
No permission enclosed in letters to students will be
accepted.

Students may not spend the night in town.

Students may have dates with service men only after
a letter of permission from home sent direct to Dean
of Women.

Regulations:

Exam. Will be posted prior to examination week.

AIR RAID DRILLS

SIGNAL Prolonged ringing* of the bell.

Procedure:

1. Turn off lights and radio.

2. Form line as directed by House President.

3. Go quickly and quietly to the dining hall.

4. Remain grouped as planned by the House President
until checked by monitor.

Penalty for not attending drill (unless off campus),
leaving before drill is complete or unnecessary noise, is a
major call down.

FIRE REGULATIONS

There shall be a system of fire drills under the direction
of the Student Government Association.

Fire drills shall be held at least twice a semester.

During fire drills all quiet hour regulations must be
observed.

A major call down will be issued to those who fail to
attend fire drills.

CLASS PRIVILEGES

Freshmen:

1. May go to town three times a week.

2. May have one date night a month. This must be on
Monday night. See privilege list.

3. Must be chaperoned by Juniors or Seniors when riding
with boys in cars.

4. May attend picture show two nights a month. See
privilege list.

5. May have Sunday dates on Campus.

6. May have dinner only in homes of friends.

Sophomores:

1. May go to town four times a week. See forfeit list.

2. May have two date nights a month on Monday nights.
See privilege list.

3. Must be chaperoned by Juniors and Seniors when riding
with boys in cars.

4. May attend picture show three nights a month. See
privilege list.

Upperclassmen: Juniors:

1. May go to town at their own discretion.

2. Juniors may have dates on Sunday and Monday nights.

3. May attend the picture show four nights a month. See
privilege list.

4. May have dinner dates on the second and fourth Sunday
nights.

Seniors:

1. Seniors may have dates on any night.

2. Seniors are unlimited in the number of times they may
attend night shows.

Dean's List Privileges

Students whose names appear on the Dean's List will
receive one extra date night a month and one extra show
privilege a month.

Forfeit of Privileges

1. A student going to town too many times per week for-
feits her town privileges for one week.

2. A student is fined 25 cents or serves a campus for one
week.

3. A student who fails to sign in at 10:30 P. M. three times
is campused for one week.

4. A student who attends the show beyond the allotted
number of times forfeits her night show privilege for
one month.

Customs and Traditions

College traditions make college life worthwhile. When
you come to LaGrange, you not only enjoy the customs
handed down through the years, but you have a share in
adding to the traditions of your Alma Mater.

The college will honor the new students at a formal
entertainment in the fall.

The Freshman-Junior wedding takes place when the
Freshmen receive their privileges.

"Y" Installation service is held during the first month
for the new girls. The Juniors choose one or more Freshmen
"sisters."

The local sororities, which every one has the privilege
to join, provide social activities for the girls; bids are sent
out at a time designated by Inter-Sorority Council.

The Y. W. C. A. sends Thanksgiving baskets to several
needy families in LaGrange.

The Y. W. C. A. has a Christmas service for the ser-
vants. Students are expected to give a small gift to their
wash woman.

On the night before Christmas holidays, college girls
sing Christmas carols around town.

The Sophomore class is responsible for the daisy chain
for Class Day exercises. They also give a tea for their
"sister class" afterwards.

The Seniors sing to the Underclassmen at midnight on
Commencement Sunday.

Hints to Freshmen

Begin well. We're here to help you, and you to help
yourself.

Remember we do not know all you can do, so show us
by going out for all college activities.

The student Government is to help you, not catch you.

Remember that we have all been Freshmen ourselves,
and don't hesitate to call on us.

LaGrange has the honor system in Student Government.

If you don't know, ask. Curious Freshmen make wise
Sophomores.

The faculty is waiting to like you, so give them the
opportunity.

The Dean's List is a place of honor.

Always introduce your guests to the Dean of Women.

When leaving college "sign out" and when returning
"sign^Ln." It pays.

This is the place to make friends, so don't go around
with one girl exclusively.

Remember that you reflect your home.

Remember that you are here to work. Each neglected
task makes the next one harder.

Honor is too dear to be compromised for popularity, or
for the fear of being unpleasant.

Remember that your health is important; take care
of it.

Don't come to school prejudiced; you'll like it.

A freshman who can smile will go further than one
who cannot.

You'll never like anything until you try it.

Pay on time all dues. You are not a full fledged
member of any organization unless you do.

Don't be afraid to make mistakes. You can be a
Freshman only once.

Remember to read the bulletin boards each day.

Every one needs a white dress.

Remember that appropriate street clothes should be
worn in town.

Begin well. Bad work the first semester may handicap
you through the whole year.

Please Remember

To see the Dean of Women during her office hours.
Not to leave the dining hall until excused by the hos-
tess of the table.

To aid in keeping the college and the grounds in order.
Class spirit is fine, but college spirit is better.
To clean your room each morning.

That absolute quiet and courteous attention is expect-
ed in chapel and in vespers.

All announcements are to be made in the dining hall
or posted on bulletin boards.

That your vote is an expression of your opinion and
should be cast with careful consideration.

Not to talk from dormitory windows.

Dress formally for concerts and public recitals.

Do not appear on the campus in shorts, swim suits, or
house coats.

Carry Coca-Cola bottles to senior store.

Do not drink Coca-Colas or eat in lobbies, on porches,
or in the library.

Any library book checked out on your name for an-
other student, if not returned at the proper time, will run
up a fine for you. Let your friends check out books for
themselves.

CONSTITUTION OF THE Y. \Y. C. A.

Article I. Name

This organization shall be called the Young* Women's
Christian Association of LaGrange College, LaGrange,
Georgia.

Article II. Purpose

The Young Women's Christian Association of LaGrange
College, a member of the Young Women's Christian Associa-
tion of the United States of America, and a participant in
the World's Student Christian Foundation, declares its
purpose to be:

W T e, the members of the Young Women's Christian As-
sociation of LaGrange College, unite in the desire to realize
full and creative life through a growing knowledge of God.

We determine to have a part in making this life possible
for all people.

In this task we seek to understand Jesus and follow
Him.

ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION
Constitution

Article I. Name

The name of this organization shall be Athletic Associa-
tion of LaGrange College.

Article II. Purpose

The purpose of this organization shall be to promote
interest in athletics and to develop the physical side of the
individual.

Article III. Membership

All students of LaGrange College who have paid the
dues required by the Association are members of the Asso-
ciation.

LETTERS

New Point System

1. Class Teams: First team, 100 points.

2. If Class team is winner of game, 25 additional points.

3. Observation of Health Month, 175 points.

4. Tennis: 20 points for entrance in tournaments; 10
points for each match won; 3 points for each hour of
practice.

5. Hiking: (1) Two points for each mile hiked. At least
two miles must be hiked before points are given. (2)
Not more than 50 points may be earned a semester
in hiking.

6. Track: 25 points for winner in any event; 15 points for
second place in any event; 2 points for entering.

7. Swimming: 2 points for each half hour.

8. Archery: 3 points for each hour.

9. Practice: All hours in any sport over required number,
2 points.

10. Executive position: President, 100 points; Vice-Presi-
dent, 75 points; Secretary, 75 points; Treasurer, 75
points; Class Representative, 50 points. This is limited
to the three major organizations and to class officers.

11. Ping Pong tournament: entrance, 10 points; winner, 5
points. College champion: winner, 20 points.

12. Stars: Stars will be awarded only after letter has been
won. 500 points are required.

13. Tennis emblems: Special tennis awards will be given to
the student having 200 points in tennis.

14. Awards: College letters shall be awarded to the ten
students making the highest number of points over 1000.

15. Tennis emblems: Special tennis awards will be given
to the student having 200 points in tennis after she has
a star.

16. Dance card: 25 points each semester; 3 points for each
hour of practice.

QUILL DRIVERS' CLUB

Constitution

Article 1. Name

This organization shall be called the Quill Drivers' Club.
Article 2. Purpose

The purpose of the Quill Drivers' Club is to further the
interests of the Scroll by providing fellowship for the per-
sons who work together in those interest.

Article 3. Membership

Section 1. The membership of the Quill Drivers' Club
shall consist of all members of the Scroll Staff and all con-
tributors to the Scroll who have had as many as three con-
tributions accepted for publication in any one year.
