of it will exhibit two or three things of great unportanc

education:

First. While the Mathematical course of other Colli
form- the basis of thk the amount snd peculiar adapted]
of ear English studies, cannot fail to secure to our pupils aj
tsrough understanding of the English Language, abd an
Mvg acquaintance with its best Literature. The country!
may look for thorough training in these studies, from the El- J
emetary principles to the highest accomplishment of our Lit-
erature.

In the second place: Latin and French are now made reg-i

uir studies, without extra charge. All who take the Col->
lurse arc required to study these Languages. Bxoel-j

lent Teachers for both have been secured, and they will hare
suitable time and place provided. In the Latin and French, '
then, we expect to have scholars, not pedant-.

There is another feature in the course, which must meet the
jpproval of every lover of thorough Education. We b
provided a second course, called "The Hjsident Graduate's
Course." Young ladies who have graduated here, or else-f
where, and desire to extend their Education, may now have!
every facility for the accomplishment of this purpose. Many ',
nts find their daughters, through the ordinary course ofS
Jmstruction, before their minds are developed, and before thcy^X

The Board of Trustees consider themselves peculiarly f*
tunatc in procuring the Bervioea of T)r. Wurm, whose kwmt
abilities and extensive reputation, will put this Depart

make it superior. He has taught for a number of yean iii

<TJ DRESS. jf

' Wc lo not think it expedient or economical to adopt ai
'uniform for the pupils; but we wfll m*t " plainness and
neatness of apparel. Jewelry and eostly drees will be po
tivdy forbidden. This shah 1 be enforced, not only by the au-
thority of the Faculty, hut by theexample audDrecept of tie
I:,. lies of the EstaUishmcnt.

As our term begin In October, we recommend that the
hildrcn sent to our care, he furnished with good supply of
Winter clothes, and two or three pair of thiek-soled shot
This will be all sufficient until the next Spring, when Summer
clothes can be sent them, or procured here, under the direo-
tion of the Teachers; and we most urgently request, that the
style in which dresses he made, shall he such as will CO
both arms and neck. As an Institution, we make no war on
fashion, hut for many good reasons we coald mention, wcshall
[forbid the prevailing custom.

GOVERNMENT.

The government of the College is entrusted to the Pre*
dent and his Associates in the Faculty of instruction. A
prompt and cheerful obedience to the laws will be expected,
and this shall be enforced hy appeals lo the reason and con-
science of the pupil. Appeals to the conscience, sustained byj
.clearly revealed principles of the Word of God, have alwayi
proved most successful in securing faithful obedience. While
wc shall avoid sectarian dogmatism, we -hall feel it our imper-
ative duty to teach them the Bible, and their relations to God
and man. A reference to the Course of Study, will show
that it has much of Biblical Literature in it, and we shall lb
violence to the design of the Board of Trustees, if we only
<j teach the proprieties of life, and the conventional rule- of soO
^ciety wc shall therefore he earnest in enforcing the religiooSj

ADDRESS TO THE PATRONS. S

Daring the year, the College with all its fixtures both in
the Chapel and Boarding Hon-.-, bare been purchased by die
Georgia Conference. The Board of Trustees were in
sioii during the commencement, and with great unanimity
(ftcted the organisation of . the College. Prof. Mayson haal
laught in the College for the but six month*, and his moo
vaa bo distinguished, thai be wag unanimously elected to the
chair of Mathematics. We Kay nothing more for him than
that which the Examining Committee expressed "He is all
re wished." 1'rof. {{arris is a graduate of the Military iii-f
ititute of Virginia, where special attention to Natnral Science-
ami French is given, and his testimonials' in these branch'
(bow the highest qualifications. His success in Sparta, <
where be has had, the present year, tie- largest school which j
has been there for many years past, will be guarantee enough j
that his department will be inferior to none. The Truste
jhave ordered any addition to the Apparatus thai maybe need- '
ri. so that we ^iuill be able to give great facilities to our pn. i
pil>. not only in the lectures of an accomplished Professor,)
hut also in the successful demonstrations of the Laboratory.]
Tin success of Prof, Alters, for the last six years, is known tot

: of our patrons already. He comes fresh from the School '
Boom, a thorough scholar and an experienced teacher. Ofj
Mrs. Judge, little nee.] be said. For twelve years she has]

1 the l t efficient teacher in the College, and is now allf

that Miss Denton was sad more. Mrs. Chapman has taught;

.in the Southern Female College the past year, and is known

i community as the most successful manager of the Pri-j

nary Classes that has been here for years. With President,

Connor at the head, our Faculty will compare favorably [

with any in the South. We have received the most cheering i

(intelligence of the pleasure with which the new organization?

nf the College is hailed, and now look forward to a future Pv
