SCIENTIFIC APPARATr*

The Principals are making arrc:.gements to add to the already multiplied faeili- 1
tiesof the Institution, a new and extensive Chemical and Philosophical Apparatus.
The one heretofore iu use, though very extensive, is not altogether adequate to the
wauts of the Iustitui*.

Health and Religion.

The health of LaGrange is unsurpassed by any town or neighborhood, South or
North. Our patrons have been unnecessarily alarmed during th*J pteseut term, by
the appearance in ourtowu of Typhoid Fever. True that awful epidemic did find
its way loour quiet and healthy commuuity, and leveled, with iis resisuVss nun, a
few of our citizens ; but we can say with truth, but not boaslih:: y, that with uot a
single exception, our school have escaped this and all other diseases for which this
year has been bo famous.

While we do not allow any particular religious creeds, faiths, or tenets to be incui-
cated upon the minds of iur pupils, yet we endeavor, as far as opportunity offers, ,
and ability serves, to keep constantly before the minds of all the pupils their solemn
responsibilities as moral, religious and immortal beings. That our effurts havo been '
crowned and blessed by the great Head of the Church, is evinced in the fact, that |
cores are annually brought from darkness to light, and attach themselves to the
Tarious orthodox Churches.

One rule with us, as unalterable as the law of the Medes and Persians, is,
that no pupil shall join any Church, without a written permission from her
parents.

Physical Training.

With a via* to promote llie health, and give graceful action to the popils, Calis-
ihenic Exercws were, at an early period in tin; history oi 1 1 1 - Iiitilute, iucotporated
as a pait at.il pircel of the sy.'.em of education. An intellectual education, be it
mtm) Piteusive aud pet feet, m incapable of answering its ends without bodil) health
u*id vigor. This exercise has been improved from lime to time, till now it in ptf-
! feci system of dclieat- gymnastics. The whole school are exercised twice a day in
the varioua stops and manipulations, all of which are directed and harmonized, by
the inuaic of the Violin. 'Tis not dancinc, aud yet it accomplishes all the good
that dancing proposes, without mcurring any of the evils of that entertainment.

Mode of Discipline.

Moral suasion is the rod used in the Institute, which is never departed from
win!- there is any hope of reform by this means ; but wbeu this fails, severer meas-
ures are resorted to.

Internal Regulations.

Ours is purely a collegiate system, every clasa being required to prosecute simul-
taneously oue study in each of the Literary Departr.-.eata, and thus to enjoy the
benefits of th daily instruction of the whole Faculty of Teachers.

Privileges, Conditions, 5tc.

The Institute was chartered by the Legislature of Georgia, in 1847, with the j
potv r of conferring Degrees, Medals, ic. Any pupil, therefore, pursuing to its :
completion the prescribed course of English and French studies, shall be entitled to
r-r-.v \ DbvJmH in French, with the First Degree in Bngliik Literature If
to tilts course she adds th- Latin and Greek, she Will betUilled to a Latin Dij'l- :na,
with the First Degree in the Arlt and Sciences.

We hope our pupils, in future, will not be interrupted in their stndies, by being i
token home on visits ; and notwithstanding it is always agreeable with us to see our
patrons, yet such are the disastrous consequences to the pupils of having their friends
to visit them frequently, we would most respectfully ask pareuls to interpose and
prevent this cause of distraction. Hereafter our invariable rule will be to mtke no
allowance in the grades of scholarship, for any such interruption.

Institution since by the opening of the ensuing year we shall be in
want of nothing that would be calculated t anaajMa the advantages of
scholastic training. All we a.sk is the pupils, and if we do not give
perfect satisfaction it shall cost the patron nothing but loss of time.
And shall we not behold our new College building crowded with young
Ladies from the raiioOB Southern and W< -tern States- We do not
appeal to Methodists, Baptiata, Presbyterians, Episcopalians, or any
other denomination of christian exclu-ively. Ours is a public Insti-
tution, where all meet, and none dispute. Other institutions may tie
to parties, sects, denominations, &c., if they wish ; but we rely alone
on the solid merits of our Institution, and appeal to a generous public
to afford us an opportunity to prove our worth. Send us the pupils,
and we will return you the scholars.

To those who came forward, and so liberally contributed their means
| to the erection of our new College, we would return our heartfelt ac-
knowledgments. And for their information specially, wemake the fol-
lowing statement, viz : That all the moanj for the entire, building, except
five hundred dollars, has been raised, so that as soon as it is finished it
will be pi i id for.
