Where sentinels once guarded
Thy armaments of yore ...
Now each fall in the A.C, Quadrangle, members of the Augusta College community
gather with those from the Augusta community for an evening of fun and fund raising.
Such activities are in keeping with our tradition: historically, our philosophy is that of
turning swords into plowshares.

Galloway Hall
Norman Lochridge Galloway
1897-1979
In the histories of Richmond
Academy, The Junior College of
Augusta, and Augusta College few
teachers and administrators hove been
as well loved and respected as
Norman Lochridge Galloway. Students
and peers were enthusiastic in their
praise of this gentle scholar. He was
superior in presenting material in his
classes, an active supporter of extra
curriculor activities, and a friend to all.
From his first years in Augusta he
constantly worked for improvement in
the quality of education and in the
general welfare of the faculty. Students
frequently sought his counsel and
received assistance in solving both
academic and personal problems. This
relationship continued when he was
appointed the College's first dean of
students, a position that he held until his
retirement.
Ronald F, Galloway. Jr. unveils plaque commenorating his grandfather.
President George A. Christenberry leads the dedication ceremony.
Dedication
Dr. Ronald F, Galloway expresses appreciation on behalf of the
Galloway family.

EDITOR'S NOTE
I would like to thank everyone wtio helped me in producing the 1982-83 White Columns. Taking over the yearbook
in January of 1983. was a challenge to say the least. Had it not been for the generosity and patience of a number of
persons, I could not have pulled it off at all. I am especially appreciative for my secretary, Mrs. Mary Dickson, Brenda
Smart, the Advertisement Representative and Mrs. Dee Davis, the College's Publications Director. Pages 16-32 were
done by the students who started as student editors and later resigned.
I am very appreciative for the patience the faculty showed as they allowed me to interrupt their classes for candid
shots. While the task of taking over a thousand photos was awesome, the pleasure of meeting and talking to faculty
and students was a good experience.
Here's hoping that the White Columns might be better and earlier next year.
Sincerely,
Roscoe Williams

Augusta College Alma Mater
Where sentinels once guarded
Thy armaments of yore.
Now aged oaks sublimely
Bespeak a lofty lore.
(Chorus)
CHORUS:
All hail, Augusta College
Our voices now we raise
To give thee. Alma Mater,
Our fervent love and praise.
And we, thy sons and daughters.
Who pass thy portals through.
Will keep thy inspiration
With honor high and true.
(Chorus)
Thy sword is now a plowshare.
And peace enshrines thy name;
The flag unfurled above thee
Adds glory to thy fame.
(Chorus)
