AUGUSTA COLLEGE
GEORGIA

A COMMITMENT TO . . .
A plodding student ... his
study is not great but continual, and
consists much in the sitting up till
after midnight in a rug-gown and
night-cap, to the vanquishing per-
haps of some six lines; yet what he
has, he has perfect, for he reads it
so long to understand it till he gets
it without book.
John Earle
The avid student has been a
symbol of dedication and
achievement. This year Augusta
College joined its students in a
commitment to excellence by insti-
tuting a year long fund drive which
began in September. The funds will
be used for library improvements,
faculty development, and the acqui-
sition of nationally known faculty
members. The commitment to
excellence fund drive is tangible
evidence of Augusta College's
dedication to students and their
needs.
A COMMITMENT
TO
ACADEMICS
The soul of man is divided into
three parts: intelligence, reason,
and passion. Intelligence and pas-
sion are possessed by other animals,
but reason by man alone . . .
Reason is immortal, all else mortal.
Pythagoras
He who will not reason is a
bigot; he who cannot is a fool; and
he who dares not is a slave.
William Drummond
A COMMITMENT
Body and soul are not two
substances but one. They are man
becoming aware of himself in two
different ways.
C. F. Von Weizsacker
A COMMITMENT
Aim at perfection in everyth-
ing, though in most things it is
unattainable. However, they who
aim at it, and persevere, will come
much nearer to it than those whose
laziness and despondency make
them give it up as unattainable.
Lord Chesterfield
TO EXCELLENCE
A COMMITMENT TO OTHERS
In Memory of
Mr. George B. Cooke
December 1, 1927 - January 31, 1980
Think of the importance of
friendship in the education of men.
It will make a man honest; it will
make him a hero; it will make him
a saint. It is the state of the just
dealing with the just; the magnan-
imous with the magnanimous; the
sincere with the sincere; man with
man.
Henry David Thoreau
A COMMITMENT TO FUN
A COMMITMENT TO TRADITION
Sherrell Grubbs - Homecoming Queen
Robert Hoover - Homecoming King
Tradition is an integral part of any institution and Augusta College is no different. Augusta College's commitment
to tradition is high-lighted every year by Homecoming Week. This year's activities reached a climax at the basketball
game against Columbus College when Sherrell Grubbs was crowned Homecoming Queen and Robert Hoover was
crowned Homecoming King.

HOMECOMING WEEK
The activities of Homecoming Week were
kicked off this year by the comedy team of
Edmonds & Curley. Other activities included an
ice cream party, a bonfire-hot dog roast, a
parade, and of course, the homecoming game.
Riding the crest of homecoming spirit, Augusta
College defeated Columbus College 83 to 74. At
halftime, Sherrell Grubbs was crowned
Homecoming Queen and Robert Hoover was
crowned Homecoming King. After the game,
everyone showed up at the CAC to celebrate
our victory at the homecoming dance. Everyone
showed up, that is, except Mantra, the band.
TUG OF WAR
After winning the Augus-
ta College Tug of War, Sigma
Phi Nothing fraternity
traveled to Atlanta to par-
ticipate in the state finals. The
Sigma Phi Nothings placed
second in the state competi-
tion.
BLOOD DRIVE
Four blood drives were held at Augusta
College this year. Three were sponsored by Pi
Kappa Phi and one was sponsored by Delta Chi.
According to Janet Rice, Director of Recruitment
at the Walter L. Shepard Blood Center, "the
community at large is very grateful for the support
and enthusiasm of the college community."
