The Lady Jags put forth a great effort this year in representing
Augusta College. Determination and aggressiveness were two
qualities greatly shown by the Lady Jags as they took on each one
of their opponents. After the games practices continued, and the
sacrificing of hours after school under the constant devotion of each
girls skills brought the Lady Jags many impressive wins over Col-
legs like Converse, Newberry, and many more. The Lady Jags
brought another good season of Basketball to The Augusta Col-
lege Campus.

Starting off, for the Augusta College Basketball Team,
seemed to be the one problem. With a Conference record
of 0-3 from the beginning, they had to pull together, com
pile their efforts, and start anew. It could be done as the
team proved by bringing out a good season. For those who
were not cheering, yellir^, or whatever, you missed some
really good ACTION! The starting five for the AC team
consisted of three Freshmen, so you see that there is more
in store next year for AC. They proved that they had some
in store as they defeated not only one of the top ranking
teams, West Georgia, but many other teams as well. At
the end as well as the beginning, many of the AC Jags
were ranked at the top of the South Atlantic Conference,
offensively and defensively.

54

55

Gimme' a "J" . . . Go all the way make two
. . . Go Jags . . . We want two ... Be Aggres-
sive . . . Shoot it, siiik it, dribble that ball!

All of these were cheers that were shouted at the
Augusta College Men's Basketball Team this year to
help them along during the season. The Jags started
off by winning the Tip-Off Tournament, but the
games in the Conference had a slow start. Jags did
not give up and they came on strong in the Chirst-
mas Tourney, and won it. Pete Eason received the
trophy for the Most Valuable Player for the Tourna-
ment and he also received a plaque for being on the
All Tournament Team. All the efforts of Marvin
Vanover, Lenny Carlson, and the team this season,
will pay off next season when there will be many
players returning to the team to bring another ex-
citing season to the Augusta College Campus.

Homecoming

Homecoming 1977 was a climax of a
week filled with such events as Basketball
games, crowning the new Queen, making
displays, and the bonfire.

The bonfire, on February 4, 1977,
was filled with beer, cheer, and fun!!
It came to an end when the security
police finally "Captured the Cougar!"
Saturday the Lady Jags played their bas-
ketball game in the afternoon, then the
faculty followed with a display of their
talents. During the halftime of the Men's
Basketball game. Miss Homecoming
1977 was announced. The second runner
up was Kim Williams, the first runner
up was Diane Johnson, and the Homecom-
ing Queen for 1977 is Miss Teena Cun-
ningham, represented by the Greeks on
campus.
