tuesday-thursday REPORT (cont.)
Sept. 24, 1963
STUDENTS ALERTED TO RACKET: The Better Business
Bureau of Augusta has informed college officials that
two men who formerly worked for a Memphis printing
concern are fleecing college students by taking orders
for personalized crested stationery which is never
delivered. Here are excerpts from a letter written by
M. Carter Gx^rynn, secretary-manager of the local business
bureau:
"Pepper Printing Company of Memphis, Tennessee,
has a subsidiary operation, Pepperite Company, which
is engaged in the direct sale of personalized crested
stationery to college students. A number of authorized
agents of this company travel about the country, selling,
its paper. Such representatives are supposed to clear
their sales activities in advance with college officials.
"Two men, however, reported using the names James
A. Morris and Calvin L. Hall, whose authorizations to
represent this company were terminated some time ago,
appear to be continuing the solicitation of orders,
persuading customers to make checks payable to the sales
representative instead of the company. Checks are cashed
but no orders are turned in. By the time the victim
realizes the stationery has not arrived, usually a few
weeks later, the salesman is long gone."
This inforaation is presented to AC students as
a public service.
--GBR
***
BAPTIST STUDENT UNION MEETS: Everyone is invited
to attend the Baptist Student Union which meets tomorrow
(Wednesday, Sept. 25) at 3 p.m. in the Club Building
