Benefield discusses the Jeanes supervisors and the rural one- and two-room African American schools in Burke County Georgia, between 1930 and 1955. The Jeanes Supervisors were a group of African American teachers who worked in southern rural schools and communities in the United States between 1908 and 1968.
African American teacher, a native of Wilmington, N.C. (1926-2010) She taught in the Burke County School System from 1948-1983. She was also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Order of Eastern Stars, Golden Circle, Retired Teachers Association, Georgia Association of Educators and Fayetteville State Alumni. - External Identifiers:
