Edward Vason Jones was an architect from Albany, Georgia who specialized in a neoclassical style. He took on many projects in the southeast but also gained national fame, leading to design work for the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the White House. Throughout his career, Jones took photographs and made sketches of a wide range of architectural interests, which would inform his work.
