Dr. Louie D. Newton was president of the Southern Baptist Convention from 1947-1948, and president of the Georgia Baptist Convention in 1950 and 1951. He served as pastor of the Druid Hills Baptist Church in Atlanta from 1929-1969. He founded Americans United for Separation of Church and State in 1934, and the Georgia Council on Moral and Civic Concerns in 1943. - Local Identifier:
