- In part two of this two-part interview, Fred and Doreen Franklin recall family members who served during World War II, including Fred's brother, who was discharged from the service before D-Day due to a previously undiscovered heart murmur; and Doreen's brother with whom Fred met several times and whose ship was part of several convoys that the USS Atlanta escorted during the war. The couple reflect on Fred's service and on the use of the atomic bomb against Japan. They recall their son who served in Vietnam and observe that young people today often do not understand the sacrifices made by previous generations.
