- In this interview, Monty and Crystal Allen describe their World War II experiences. Mr. Allen recounts life in the Depression in South Carolina. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in June 1944 after studying for a year at Auburn University; he was at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina at the end of the war. Mrs. Allen relates civilian life and the level of patriotism she witnessed even as a child, and the distress she felt on learning about Nazi concentration camps. She recalls keeping up with news about the war through Life magazine.
