- In this interview, Buck Cheves describes his Army Air Force career in the Pacific at the end of World War II. His pilot training took him to the University of Vermont; Americus, Georgia; and Greenville and Columbus, Mississippi. He picked up his crew at Westover Field, Massachusetts, traveled to Chatham Field, Georgia, and finally to Ephrata, Washington. From there, the command pilots were taken to the Marianas Islands. At this time, the war with Japan was near its end, and his missions were largely supply and humanitarian, particularly to American prisoners of war.
