- In this interview, Tommy Barnes describes his experiences in the Navy during World War II. He was commissioned an officer and served on an inshore patrol off the coast of Charleston, South Carolina. Later, his ship performed patrol duty off the coasts during the battles of Iwo Jima and Okinawa. Mr. Barnes' wife, Rachel (Muckenfuss) Barnes also participated in the interview. She served with the Navy's Public Relations office in Charleston during the war. Part of her duties involved censorship of news stories.
