- Description:
- In this interview, Runo Anderson recalls his experiences serving in the United States Army 5th Psyop Battalion in Vietnam. He remembers growing up, attending Wake Forest University, and training for both psyops and airborne. He describes his duties as an airborne foreign language propaganda officer, working with a team of military and civilian officials in the highlands of Vietnam to "win the hearts and minds"of the people there. He recalls several incidents that occurred while he was assisting the medical personnel in the area as they treated Vietnamese civilians. He describes in detail one operation to save the life of a Vietnamese boy who had been accidentally shot by South Vietnamese troops. He reflects on how his military experience informed the rest of his life and career.
