- Description:
- In this interview, John and Peggy Ridley describe their experiences during World War II. John describes his pre-med education and his desire to join the Medical Corps when war broke out. When that request was denied, he went to Washington and the office of Admiral Nimitz to secure the appointment. He was serving on a destroyer in a convoy shipping aviation gasoline to Russia when it was attacked by a German submarine. He attended school to become a flight surgeon, pinned on his wings and married his wife in 1943. He served on a carrier in the Pacific and describes his participation there, telling stories both harrowing and humorous. Peggy describes her work in New York and how she became a cover girl on Life magazine. She reminds John of an incident when he fell overboard in the north Atlantic and other stories.
John Ridley was a flight surgeon in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Peggy Ridley worked in New York during the war. - Metadata URL:
