- In this interview, Russell Redding recalls his history as a Navy SEAL in Vietnam. He relates the founding and purpose of the Atlanta Vietnam Veterans Business Association. He describes his youth and education as well as how he entered the Navy and became a SEAL. He gives a brief history of the SEALs. He outlines a brief history of the U.S. involvement in Vietnam, including the Gulf of Tonkin incident, the USS Maddox (DD 731) and the USS Turner Joy (DD 951). The mission of his unit was "Operation Game Warden." He describes the difference between World War II and Vietnam. He discusses the culture and living conditions in Vietnam. After his tours in Vietnam, he was attached to the Army as an adviser for a joint exercise with the Chinese. He discusses the aftermath of the war in American society and how the war helped him appreciate the little things in life.
