- In this interview, William Poole describes his experiences in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He recalls his early life, education and entrance into the military. His mission was to assist the local Vietnamese to establish democracy; he recalls the cultural obstacles as well as successes. He describes the living conditions, including communicating with home. He discusses the difference between what the Army was accomplishing and what was being portrayed in the press. He describes his work with a Catholic orphanage and how his unit had a medical team that treated the local population. He tells of his homecoming as well as his post-war education and career.
