- Description:
- In this interview, LeRoy Myhre remembers his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He trained to be an Aviation Machinist's Mate and went to gunnery school. After his training he was sent back to Norfolk where he swept hangars until he got tired of it and volunteered for sea duty. He became a gunner on torpedo bombers in both the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. He described their duties as submarine hunters in the Atlantic. He describes his activities as a tail gunner in the Pacific and the bombing raids they flew. He recalls his feelings about flying and his post-war education and career. He displays several photographs of himself, his ships and his decorations.
