- In this interview, David Long recalls his service in the U.S. Navy. He describes his childhood and education. He tells of meeting President Roosevelt when he came to Atlanta to dedicate Techwood Homes. He recalls his four commands aboard minesweepers in both the Atlantic and Pacific fleets and details stories of those commands. He remembers clearing mines ahead of the fleet before the Japanese surrender. He describes the technology of World War II mines. He was to have participated in "Operation Majestic," part of the planned invasion of Japan. After the war, he remained in the Atlanta Battalion of the Naval Reserves and met at Naval Air Station Atlanta when it was located at what is now Fulton County Airport - Brown Field.
