- In this interview, Eugene Halski recalls his experiences in the Russian Army during World War II. His parents died in a famine and he was drafted. He describes wartime conditions, including shortages, retreats and capture. He describes being captured and escaping multiple times, as well as his efforts to evade capture and find food and shelter. He remembers being on trains that were bombed by both American and Russian planes. He describes Germany and the German people. He recalls his liberation by English "people." He discusses his time in a displaced persons camp and his fear of returning to the Ukraine. He remembers being approached by an American who wanted workers for his farm; Halski was sponsored by this man and describes coming to the United States.
