The Ku Klux Klan is a hate group and domestic terrorist organization founded in 1866 for the purposes of opposing Republican Reconstruction efforts in the South and maintaining white supremacy. The group has experienced fluctuating periods of revival and decline. In 1915, a second incarnation of the Klan was founded in Stone Mountain, Georgia by ex-minister William Simmons. - Local Identifier:
