Paul Douglas Coverdell was a Georgia State Senator, serving as Senate Minority Leader in 1974. From 1989 to 1991, he was the director of the Peace Corps, starting the "World Wise Schools" program, and in 1992, he was elected to United States Senate and served on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Agriculture Committee, and Small Business Committee. He is also known for the Coverdell Education Savings Accounts, which are used by millions of Americans to fund college educations for their children. - Local Identifier:
