- Description:
- View of an unidentified Trappist monk and a mule in the fields at Our Lady of the Holy Ghost in Conyers, Georgia.
Trappist monks are a branch of the Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance, a contemplative order of Roman Catholics known for their adherence to the monastic lifestyle as written and defined in the Rule of St. Benedict. The Monastery of Our Lady of the Holy Ghost (now Our Lady of the Holy Spirit) was founded on March 21, 1944, after twenty monks from a monastery in Kentucky moved to Rockdale County, Georgia. The monastery is located on what used to be Honey Creek Plantation in Conyers Georgia, which belonged to actress Colleen Moore.
