Ellijay Georgia, founded in 1834, is the County Seat of Gilmer County. The city is situated on the site of an old Indian village, and the cities name means "earth green there" in Cherokee. The Cherokee Indians had lived on the site until they were removed to Oklahoma in 1838. Ellijay is also nicknamed "Georgia's Apple Capital", and hosts an annual apple festival in October. - Local Identifier:
