On Labor Day in 1934, textile workers in the northeast and southeast began a strike against their treatment by employers at the mills. In response to the strike 72,000 southern textile workers were blacklisted from the mills. The strike led to the formation of the Textile Workers Union of America (TWUA) in 1939. - Local Identifier:
