- Description:
- This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:57, is a feature about racial tensions in Cedartown, Georgia, involving recent Mexican immigrants and white supremacists. The program features audio excerpts of local residents Francisco Lozano, Jose Guzman, and Jim and Juanita Bell, as well as Gene Guerrero of the Georgia chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union, and Lynn Wells of the National Anti-Klan Network. Racial tensions in the area were highlighted by the murder of Casiando Zamudio, and the harrassment of individuals from the Ku Klux Klan. The second segment, which begins at 13:54, is a feature about the conflict between former President Jimmy Carter and residents and activists who object to the building of Presidential Parkway, a four-lane highway that would connect the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library and Museum to downtown. The program features audio excerpts from Dr. Jack Boozer and Dr. Spencer King of Emory University who are members of the activist group CAUTION (Coalition Against Unnecessary Thoroughfares In Our Neighborhood); Jimmy Carter; Atlanta attorney David Walbert; Ed Tamas, and Chris Riggle, an aide to Congressman Wyche Fowler. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
