- Description:
- This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:46, is a report about the Greensboro Massacre, a mass shooting of members of the Communist Workers Party by members of the Ku Klux Klan, in Greensboro, North Carolina on November 3, 1979. Five Klansmen were acquitted of the murders in 1980. A civil trial followed in early 1984 when this program aired. The program features audio excerpts from reporters Winston Cavan and Dwight Sparks; Klansmen Joe Grady and Gorrell Pierce; Norman Olshansky of the Anti-Defamation League, and community organizer Nelson Johnson. The recording of this segment abruptly and unintentially ends at 18:18. Notes on the tape enclosure indicate the remainder of the program was lost due to an accidental overdub in production. The second segment, which begins at 18:18, is an interview with actress Sharon Levy by playwright Beryl Boykin, about the production of Rasputin in by the Theatrical Outfit on Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
