- This recording opens with singer Johnny Cash's rendition of "Southwind" and an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:20 is a feature about Georgia author Erma Calderon and his life in the South and in New York during the Harlem Renaissance. The story features audio excerpts from Calderon and Atlanta Journal reporter Leonard Ray Teel. The second segment, which begins at 13:17 is a feature about tobacco auctioneers in Danville, Virginia and by WHRO correspondent Chris Dickon, and by Beatrice Black of the South Carolina Educational Radio Network who focuses on tobacco auctioneers in South Carolina. The third segment, which begins at 23:14 is a feature about the dominance of the American Association coal company of the Yellow Creek Valley along the Tennessee and Kentucky border. The program features audio interview excerpts from author John Gaventa. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
