- This recording opens with singer Bessie Jones' rendition of "Preachin the Blues" and an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The entire program focuses on Christmas traditions in Appalachia, and begins at 1:13. The story features audio from John Rice Erwin of Anderson County, Tennessee; Cumberland College professor Chester Young; John Ramsey of Berea College; Edna Baker of Winchester, Kentucky; Lewis Lamb of Paint Lick, Kentucky, and other unidentified individuals. The story also includes audio of Atlanta story teller Chuck Larkin talking about the birth of Jesus. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
