- Description:
- This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The entire program is a feature about the Atlanta Crackers and the Atlanta Black Crackers, minor league teams who played in Atlanta. The feature is narrated by researcher Ted Rubenstein who conducted interviews with former announcer Ernie Harwell who described Ponce De Leon Park where the teams played. The program includes audio of Harwell calling an Atlanta Cracker game. Other interviewees include former Atlanta Cracker Bob Montag, who tells the story of the longest home run ever hit; and fan Pearl Sandow. Former Atlanta Crackers owner Earl Mann is interviewed as is Atlanta Braves announcer Skip Carey, who also called games for the Crackers in the mid 1960s. Other interviewees include Chico Renfroe and James "Red" Moore, former players for the Atlanta Black Crackers. Renfroe spoke about John and Bille Harden, who owned the Atlanta Black Crackers. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
