- This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:17, is a feature about the Summerhill neighborhood of Atlanta, Georgia. The program includes music and commentary by performer Tim Arkansas, who talks about the history of the community and its people and leaders. Arkansas, whose real name was Eddie Hudgons, sings "Memories of Summerhill" and "Hell-raisers of Summerhill." He talks about Vic's Corner that featured gambling and dancing; a wrestling arena called the Trucking Inn, and a Christian Methodist Episcopal church. The second segment, which begins at 22:23, is a feature about a Japanese garden at the Carter Center. The program features audio excerpts from Jimmy Carter and Andrew Young. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
"Southwind" was a radio program about the issues, people, and culture of the South that aired on WABE-FM, Atlanta's public radio station. The series, which aired from 1980 to 1987, was conceived, produced, and reported by journalist Boyd Lewis. The creator of "Southwind" labelled two tape recordings as recording number 139. It is unclear which recording was meant to be the 139th of the series. - Local Identifier:
