- Description:
- This recording opens with an introduction of the program by Boyd Lewis. The first segment, which begins at 1:12, is a feature about a group of suburban Atlanta neighbors who celebrate a Groundhog Day pageant. The neighbors and friends act out different parts of the event on an annual basis. The participants connect the ritual to Christian theology and traditions. The program features audio excerpts from Jeanie Davez, and Don and Beverly Keesling. The second segment, which begins at 13:37, is a feature about protesters in North Georgia angry about their growing share of taxes. The protests come in the context of a shift in the tax burden away from the wealthy to the poor and middle class that took place in the 1980s. The program features audio excerpts from Fort Oglethorpe jeweler John Facey; economist Dr. David Showquist, and John Keys of the Georgia Tax Reform Commission. A song by musician Bud Foote is played after the segment. The program ends with a sign off by Boyd Lewis.
