The Dungeness Ruins are the remnants of a Scottish castle built by Thomas M. Carnegie, brother of steel magnate Andrew Carnegie, as wnter retreat for his family. Construction of the house began in 1884 and Thomas Carnegie did not live to see its completion. Lucy Carnegie, his wife, completed construction of the mansion. The house burned in 1959 and had not been used by the family since 1929. - Local Identifier:
