The Atlanta Constitution was first published in 1868 by Atlanta attorney Carey Wentworth Styles. In subsequent years, ownership of the newspaper passed through several hands, including those of Atlanta Mayors Arnold Hemphill and Evan Howell. In 1950, Cox Enterprises, the owner of the Atlanta Journal bought the Constitution. In 1982, the two papers were merged as the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. - Local Identifier:
