- View of the Winecoff Hotel, taken shortly after it was damaged by fire, looking down Peachtree Street in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Winecoff Hotel was built in 1913 and located on the 100 block of Peachtree Street in downtown Atlanta. The hotel burned in a fire in 1946 that killed 119 people. The fire prompted immediate changes to building and fire codes. The building re-opened in the 1950's as the Peachtree On Peachtree Hotel. In 2006 the building began restoration to become the Hotel Ellis. - Local Identifier:
