- View of the Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception's confirmation class of 1953, in Atlanta, Georgia.
The Catholic Shrine of the Immaculate Conception was built at its current location in 1848, with out a name, as the first Catholic Church in Atlanta. The current structure was built in 1869. The church was named on behalf of an oil painting of the Immaculate Conception that was hung behind the altar of the newly built church and dedicated as such in 1873. The church remains open today at the corner of Central Avenue and Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Atlanta, Georgia. - Metadata URL:
