Affirmation Atlanta was an initiative that consisted of various events that took place between 1974 and 1975 that were designed to inspire Atlanta citizens to come together and to affirm their faith and support in the city as an united community after the election of Maynard Jackson. The program was spearheaded by Mayor Maynard Jackson and Reverend John F. Havlik and was organized by a steering committee that included several local civic and religious leaders including Martin Luther King Sr., Joseph E. Lowery, Wyche Fowler, Nat Welch, and Randolph Taylor. The initiative was launched with a celebratory rally that took place at Central City Park in Atlanta, Georgia, on October 6, 1974. - External Identifiers:
