Benjamin Brown (1939-1999) was a lawyer active in the civil rights movement in the 1960s and was one of the founders of the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC). He served in the Georgia House of Representatives in 1966 and from 1969 to 1977, where he was an organizer and chairman of the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus and president of the Georgia Association of Black Officials. He served as deputy director of Jimmy Carter's presidential campaign and was later chosen by President Carter to be deputy chairman of the Democratic National Committee. - Local Identifier:
