Paul Douglas Coverdell (January 20, 1939 – July 18, 2000) was an insurance executive who served in the Georgia State Senate from 1970-1989 as a Republican. He was the Director of the Peace Corps from 1989-1991, and was subsequently elected to the United States Senate in 1992. He served in the Senate until his death in 2000 and is best remembered for his role in creating a strong Republican Party in Georgia as well as the Coverdell Education Savings Account. - Metadata URL:
