Zell Bryan Miller (1932- ), a Democrat, served as Georgia's Lieutenant Governor from 1975 to 1990, making him the longest-serving lieutenant governor in the state's history. He subsequently served two terms as Georgia's Governor from 1991 to 1999. In 2000, Miller was appointed to a United States Senate seat by Georgia Governor Roy Barnes following the death of Republican Senator Paul Coverdell. Miller later won a special election to keep the seat and served in the United States Senate until 2005. - Local Identifier:
