Maynard Jackson was elected as the first African American mayor of Atlanta, Georgia in 1974. He served three terms, two from 1974-1982 and another from 1990-1994. During his time in office he helped to remodel Hartsfield Atlanta International Airport, which was renamed as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport after his death in 2003. - Local Identifier:
